5 Leadership Principles from Army Ranger School
- STAMINA
Understand that everyone has a breaking point. Be aware of the symptoms of your team running low on stamina and continually look out for them. Don’t let a letter of resignation be your first (and last) indication that you have pushed someone too far. - TEAM PREPARATION
When up against a deadline, leaders should allot more preparation time for their team to work toward a deliverable than the leader uses themself. - COMMUNICATION MODELING
A common planning and communication model creates efficiency. When the leader plans utilizing a shared model, and their team regularly receives instructions based on that model, information is captured quickly, effectively and with little information loss. - SURVIVAL
You can push yourself farther than you think. Sleep and food, for example, are very important for health, but when you are deprived of these, you figure out how little you actually need to survive. There will be times you must do more with less than you are used to having.
You’ll survive - just get it done. - HUMILITY
Everyone needs a buddy to help see them through challenges. Succeeding alone is impossible - get used to working with others and eliminate any ego that makes you think you can do it all on your own. Humility is a life-saver.
