Although we've been experiencing summer weather in Texas for a few weeks now, it's not too late to make sure both you and your home are prepared! Here are some tips to get started:
Replace Your Air Filter
This is the time to ensure your air conditioning is fully functioning! Start by replacing your air filter and set a reminder to change it every three months. It might be time to upgrade and consider a smart thermostat that does the thinking (and programming) for you to save energy and keep you cool.
Change Your Ceiling Fan Direction
Did you know your ceiling fan is designed to rotate differently depending on the season? During the winter, it should rotate clockwise and help move the heat that's risen. In summer months, it should spin counter clockwise and push air down to push air down and create a stronger draft. To change direction, you should be able to hit a small switch near the base. (This would also be the perfect time to dust and clean them!).
Bug Proof Your Home
Summer weather will bring out the bugs so ensure your home is properly sealed by looking at your windows and doors to check for any cracks or gaps. Caulk these areas closed if necessary. You may also want to consider hiring a professional to spray your outdoor perimeter with a pesticide. Natural solutions that are pet friendly exist and you can easily make your own DIY natural repellant.
Create an Outdoor Living Space
Start by cleaning your deck or patio and any furniture or upholstery that is stored outside. Once everything is tidied up, you can add outdoor lights, new plants, candles, and pillows to create an outdoor extension of your living space.
